Our Clean Yamuna (OCY) is a citizen-led initiative focused on restoring the health and purity of the Yamuna River, one of India’s most sacred and vital water bodies. Over the years, the Yamuna has suffered from extreme levels of pollution due to untreated sewage, industrial waste, plastic dumping, and lack of awareness about its significance. OCY aims to revive the river through a collaborative approach that combines community action, youth participation, education, and sustainable practices.

This movement encourages individuals, schools, colleges, NGOs, and local authorities to come together and take ownership of their river. Activities include clean-up drives along the riverbanks, awareness campaigns, eco-friendly waste management workshops, plantation of trees near the river, and promoting alternatives to polluting rituals. One of the most powerful elements of OCY is the active engagement of young people — students become “Yamuna Champions,” spreading awareness in their schools and neighborhoods, while also participating in field visits and action projects.

OCY promotes the idea that saving the Yamuna is not the job of the government alone but a shared responsibility of all citizens. It’s about reconnecting with nature, understanding the importance of water in our lives, and making choices that protect our environment. The campaign also highlights the connection between clean water, health, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

By inspiring behavioral change, building community leadership, and creating visible impact on the ground, OCY is not just a river clean-up initiative — it is a movement for ecological transformation and sustainable living.
