Y-CLAP
Y-CLAP is a climate action program designed to inspire and empower young people to become leaders in climate and environmental action. Through mentorship from experts, young people with proven potential embark on a leadership journey, whereby they set ambitious goals and work on achieving them. In addition, YCLAP aims to foster environmental consciousness and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address climate challenges. Through this program, participants have the opportunity to make a tangible impact in their communities and be recognized for their contributions to climate action. YCLAP Odisha started in 2021 when the US Consulate General Hyderabad collaborated with Bakul Foundation, Bhubaneswar, aligning with the U.S. Government’s commitment to climate action under President Biden. In its inaugural year, 15 outstanding candidates were selected from across Odisha. Notably, several of these participants have gained international recognition as climate leaders. For instance, 3 of the 20 young climate leaders chosen from India to be a part of the International Climate Action Champions Network (CACN), established by ORF and the U.S.Embassy, were from that cohort of YCLAP. The 2nd edition of YCLAP Odisha in 2024 has been significantly strengthened by partnership with UNICEF, Youth4water Plus and the Bharatiya Gyan Vigyan Samiti (BGVS). This collaboration has strengthened the program’s reach and resources, enabling it to provide better support to the selected climate champions. Y-CLAP has successfully engaged 13 exceptional candidates in 8 captivating projects focused on sustainable consumption and air pollution, under the mentorship of Manas Rath and Ankita Mohapatra.
